English vinglish
When I ask him any question. He says" Mujhe English nahi atha" (I don't know English) So we had a discussion can he do or learn something only if he knows to talk or read English properly? Initially he said "yes, without English I cant do anything." Then when we saw he could make many things without knowing English. He said "Main bahut kuch karsaktha hun English ke bina" (I can do many things without English)
I wonder why that one language/subject is given so much importance that the child cannot see his/her the other skills or talents he has.
He said " Mujhe English sikhna hai" (I want to learn English) We both were understanding his need to learn English. When I asked him 'whose responsibility it is to teach you?' As a matter of fact he answered " My mom".
We adults have taken away the joy and impact of self directed learning. When a child decides and takes responsibility for his own learning.... for his own life then he can believe in himself.
Further when we discussed he said "Its my responsibility".
When he said "I want to learn to talk in English" I said "You can talk, don't worry about making mistakes" He said "I can't mistakes, Daat padegi (I will be scolded).
We adults have not only succeeded in making them believe that they need us to learn but also that mistakes and failures are not accepted.
We continued with the conversation of My learning - My responsibility. He made his plan for learning English at home as well as at Discover Me.
Next he planned what he will do for the next 2 hours and followed the same.
